Before Senioritis Takes Over: Essential Health Skills to Master Before College
Before senioritis fully kicks in, this is a beautiful time to help your senior build the wellness skills that support college, adulthood, and independent living.

Before “senioritis” fully kicks in, take some time to make sure your high school senior feels confident with a few essential life skills.
This season is exciting, tender, busy, and full of change. The goal is not to have everything figured out. The goal is to begin building a strong foundation for physical and mental health now.
If you need help, do not hesitate to reach out. I am cheering for you as you step into this new phase of life.
Meal Planning: Protein First
Whether you are cooking at home or eating in the dorm cafeteria, learn to build meals around protein. Protein supports energy, muscle, hormones, immune health, and satiety.
Listen to Your Body
Digestive changes, bloating, gas, stress, poor sleep, antibiotics, processed foods, and late-night snacks can all affect gut health. Your body gives clues worth noticing.
Shop Smart
Whole and real foods are often found around the outer edges of the grocery store. Frozen fruits and vegetables can be budget-friendly, convenient, and long-lasting.
Incorporate Movement
Regular movement can help manage stress, support sleep quality, improve cognitive function, and build healthy muscle for your future self.
Understand Your Cycle
A regular menstrual cycle can be a sign of good health. Stress, undernourishment, and big life changes can affect your cycle, so it is helpful to pay attention.
Be Your Own Advocate
Learn your medical history, allergies, family history, lab results, symptoms, and insurance basics. These skills help you participate more confidently in your care.
As you transition into this exciting new phase of life, please remember to prioritize both your physical and mental health starting now. This foundation will support you through all the challenges and triumphs ahead.
You’ve got this!
